Big plays kill Vikes in loss

Week three proved to be disappointing for the vikes. The game started off poorly, with an opening game kickoff return for the Topeka High Trojans. The following drive was stalled by a penalty. Giving the ball right back to the trojans. High eventually scored. Putting the Vikes in a hole 14-0. Speedy Kyle Dunham scampered to the endzone towards the end of the first quarter. Sure-handed senior wide out Jacob Hurla also hauled in a touchdown catch evening the game at 14-14. But defensive breakdowns have been the story of the year and 26 seconds before half missed tackles led to a 41-yard touchdown for the Troy. After half the Vikes came out flat and couldn't get the ball moving. Which proved to be costly in a 37-14 loss.

Viking football struggling

The Vikes kicked off the season with a bang against Bonner Springs. Bonner opened up the game with a 50 yard drive capped with a 20 yard touchdown pass. On the insuing kickoff senior Kyle Dunham returned the kick to the house evening the score at 7-7. From then on, the Braves never challenged again. Senior Jacob Hurla set off with four touchdowns on six catches with 151 yards recieving, sophomore Butch Rea also had a nice debut at the quarterback position throwing 9-10 for 200 yards.

The following week was the most anticipated game of the year. Early in the season the Seaman vs. Hayden game was on tap at Hayden. Both teams came out firing on friday night. Hayden toook an early lead when the Vikes defense had a break down and let them rumble down for a 65 yard gain. Scoring on the next play then converting a 2-point conversion making it 8-0 wildcats. The following drive Seaman came right back. Butch Rea connected with senior Tyler Garst for a 64 yard touchdown pass, the followning 2-point conversion, intended for sophomore Nathan Stanley was over thrown just slightly. The game was soon suspended for a lightning delay.
Play picked back up again the following day at Seaman's Don Pierce Field. The Vikes opened with a 4th down stop and retained posession. From then on it was all Hayden. Seaman didnt make a push until it was too late in the 4th quarter and the game was already well in hand. They hope to get back on track the next week against Topeka High at home.
